Nephrotic Syndrome
It is a group of symptoms that indicate that an individual’s kidneys are not working as well as they should. The symptoms include:
- Low levels of protein in your blood
- Too much protein in your blood.
- High levels of cholesterol and fat in your blood
- Significant swelling in your feet, legs, hands or ankles.
Who Is At Risk For Nephrotic Syndrome?
Anyone can get affected but men are slightly more likely to develop it rather than women. In children, it happens between the ages of 2 and 7. Apart from that, it is more likely to develop a nephrotic syndrome when one:
- Has diabetes, lupus or FSGS.
- Takes certain medicines like anti-inflammatory drugs, non-steroidal drugs or antibiotics.
- Has an infection such as hepatitis B and C, HIV or malaria.
